Giclee reproductions vary in price depending on the popularity of the artist and the image. Size also plays a part because producing giclees is an expensive, skilled, creative technical process. If a particular Limited Edition giclee is popular the price will increase as the edition sells out since there are less available for purchase. This is the marketplace at work. Some folks compare fine art giclees with hand-pulled prints but, a giclee is not a hand-pulled print and shouldn't be represented as the same artform. However a giclee is a legitimate newcomer to our creativespaces and a welcome addition for collectors, museums and artists alike. Famous international Art Museums across the globe exhibit glicee reproductions among their collections. While hand-pulled printing is an exquisite example of one artform, giclees are an exquisite contemporary artform in their own right.
My large and small prints are created using pigment inks. The most important reasons for using pigment inks are archival print life and color stability. Pigment inks can last more than 200 years on some paper types (under ideal museum-quality lighting and framing conditions), according to testing done by Wilhelm Imaging Research, the international leader in this field. Their research is highly recommended for those who would like to see the research results for themselves, explore lots of information on Wilhelm's website at http://www.wilhelm-research.com/.
